Born in July 1956, California native Tom Hanks grew up in what he calls “a fractured family.” Following his parents’ divorce, Hanks moved around a lot and lived with a number of step-families before attending California State University in Sacramento.
He had no acting experience in college, but that didn’t stop him from achieving a legendary acting career. Hanks had lead roles in legendary films including Sleepless in Seattle, Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, and Road to Perdition.
In 1978, Hanks married actress Samantha Lewes. The couple had two children together but divorced in 1987. In 1988, Hanks married actress Rita Wilson with whom he had two more children. In addition to his acting skills, Hanks has proved to be an excellent screenwriter, director, and producer.
